Abstract
Sunprints presents solar prints developed by artists from the Spiral Gallery Cooperative and the KariYalla Indigenous artists Cooperative from the Bega/Eden region of NSW during recent workshops as part of the South Coast Solar Print Project. This project is a partnership between south coast artists and Megalo Print Studio + Gallery and was funded by Regional Arts ACT. The project and exhibition have been coordinated by south coast artist, Annie Franklin.
During February and April, workshops were conducted in the technique of solar plate printing by Sydney based artist, Seraphina Martin. Solar plate is a safe, non-toxic printmaking technique that uses the elements of sun and water to process etching plates, rather than the acids used in traditional etching. It is perfect for printmakers working outside of the metropolitan area who have limited access to a well equipped and ventilated workshop space. Seraphina is conducting a solar plate workshop at Megalo this weekend.
The project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Program, the Regional Arts Fund, which gives all Australians, wherever they live, better access to opportunities to practice and experience the arts. [Gallery media, 2008]
