Abstract
Community Printmakers of Murwillumbah Inc. (CPM), now in its 17th year, had simple beginnings in an artist’s garage in the hills of the Tweed valley. Its earliest aim was to provide a meeting place for isolated regional artists. This aim has evolved over the years into an ethos that is identifi ed by a generosity of spirit, where the emphasis on financial gain is replaced by one of supportive partnership for personal growth and the transformative art which emerges from such an environment.
The CPM cooperative has an inclusive, multi-media focus where artists of all status and disciplines are welcome to share insights through workshop practices, monthly fora and exhibitions in the CPM Workshop Gallery. The CPM National Print Awards are held biennially, in partnership with the Tweed River Art Gallery, with the purpose of encouraging the making of fine art prints in all their diversity. A variety of Award Judges, chosen from the highest echelon of their profession, include Jennifer Marshall (artist and academic), Fred Genis (master printer), Roger Butler (Senior Curator of Australian Prints & Drawings, NGA) and Mike Parr (printmaker, performance artist). In 2007 Graham Fransella’s presence in this role will continue the tradition of excellence. [PR Tweed River Gallery]
