Abstract

'In an exciting collaboration between the MCA and the University of Wollongong, this exhibition focuses on prints and multiples from both permanent collections. Multiplicity showcases a selection ranging from studio-produced master prints such as Andy Warhol’s Hot dog bean, limited edition ‘ready-mades’ by Joseph Beuys and the mass-produced and socially charged multiples by artists including Jenny Holzer.

The exhibition aims to tell an alternate history of prints and multiples over the past 40 years. Particular themes include the notion of the unique work of art; the incorporation of the vernacular, the individual and the collective production of art work, and the role of ‘political’ or activist art'.
