Abstract

Soviet born Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), the pioneer abstract painter made his most decisive contribution to modern art when he was in Munich from 1908-14. He later worked in Russia, but returned to Germany to teach at the Bauhaus from 1922-33, and the last 11 years of his life were spent in Paris. All of these periods were represented in this major exhibition of 17 oils, 19 watercolours and 9 prints. They provided a very rare opportunity for us to appreciate their almost alarming vitality and to realise the importance of their influence. (blurb).
