Abstract

“Fransella’s work demonstrates a richness and depth of technique, the wonderfully subtle emergence and submergence of forms, the Albertian sense of completeness where nothing could be added or subtracted without the rightness and unity of the composition and meaning being fractured.’Dr Dugald McLellan – Art Historian, University of Sydney

Etchings by Graham Fransella displays a body of work that spans the last decade.

Fransella’s striking images, which have been reduced to their most essential lines, echo his concern in capturing “the presence of a figure without obvious depiction of a particular person, time or place” (Graham Fransella: Figures and Landscapes, Zimmer, 2002). What remains is the absence, or trace of an individual. Fransella populates his work with his anonymous subjects, in various landscapes and interiors.

In his more recent work, there is a shift into greater abstraction and landscape. [PJP media]
