Abstract

Over the past decade McBurnie studied the habits and sanctums of 26 renowned Australian artists and made detailed copper and zinc plate etchings of the artists at work.

Co-curated by Ron McBurnie and Michael Marzik for the Cairns Regional Gallery, this exhibition shows the work of 27 contemporary Australian artists complemented by large scale etchings of the artists in their studios by Ron McBurnie.

For McBurnie, the project provided the rare experience of working with artists in their own studios, often inaccessible and private spaces. Each artist was invited by McBurnie to add their own elements to the plate prior to printing. [Gallery media, 2003]
