Abstract

'Pan' epitomises Long’s distinctive vision of the Australian landscape and his Symbolist-inspired visual language of bush idylls, which developed from the stylistic tenets of art nouveau.

This exhibition provides an in-depth historical analysis of 'Pan' as well as considering the work’s significance within the broader developments of Australian landscape painting during the build-up to Federation.
