Abstract

These Meiji prints over 100 years old were purchased after World War II by Colonel De La Fosse a member of the Commonwealth Occupation Forces in 1940's Japan. Similar to the collection of P. Neville Barnett.
Historic scenes of the Yoshiwara were recorded by famous and much admired 18th and 19th century artists including, Sharaku, Utamaro, Eisen, Haranobu, Hiroshige, Hokusai etc. most of which are now priced for Museum collections and out of reach for the general public. [gallery invitation text]
