Abstract

HERE+NOW: A Decolonist Visualisation of the Illawarra is a First Nations led exhibition curated by ‘visiting curator’ Ngugi artist-scientist Stephanie Beaupark, showcasing emerging artists with a connection to the Illawarra; the works forefront First Nations perspectives and are grounded in storytelling about shared experiences, sense of community and place. This exhibition is a call for a place-based decolonialism; a localised deconstruction of the pervading colonialist lens of knowing and being in the world, to rethink how as a community we can move forward in our diversity, through reconciliation and healing. Featuring Jessica Brown, Bella Chidlow, Will Edgar, Meahlah Langlo, Alinta Maguire, Tom Page, the Ovuhm Collective, Beatrix Rowe, Kirili Saunders. [Gallery publicity].
