Abstract

HERE+NOW: A Decolonist Visualisation of the Illawarra is a First Nations led exhibition curated by ‘visiting curator’ Ngugi artist-scientist Stephanie Beaupark, showcasing emerging artists with a connection to the Illawarra; the works forefront First Nations perspectives and are grounded in storytelling about shared experiences, sense of community and place. This exhibition is a call for a place-based decolonialism; a localised deconstruction of the pervading colonialist lens of knowing and being in the world, to rethink how as a community we can move forward in our diversity, through reconciliation and healing.
