Biography
Herman Deutsch
He settled in Ballarat and set up his own lithographic and engraving business. Between January and August 1859 he published The Ballarat Album, a series of sixteen street scenes and buildings lithographed by Francois Cogne (q.v.). listed in the trade directories in 1861-64 as a lithographer and engraver of Main Street [Ballarat]. At some stage he appears to have been in partnership with John Ferguson (q.v.), with whom he published an undated lithograph of the Ballarat Wesleyan Church. In 1865 he moved to Bridge Street, but sold out later that year to F.W. Niven. He published the Ballarat Street Directory for 1862 and engraved its advertisements.
