Biography
‘Leslie Melton completed his arts degree in painting and lithography in the north of England and studied Graphics in London. Through a special scholarship, he extended his studies of figure drawing and painting. He then worked freelance in London in TV animation (long before computers took over), window displays, packaging and exhibition stand designing. After teaching in the north of England, he moved into sculpting and worked as Henry Moore's assistant for a year (January 1957 - July 1958). For 3 years, he moved to live and work prolifically in Trinidad (West Indies) (August 1958 - January 1962). After this, he returned to the UK where he lectured in 5 different Art Colleges in the north of England and established his own Department in Redcar. Melton emigrated to Australia (Brisbane QLD) in 1975 where he lectured at the Queensland College of Art for 22 years.
Leslie Melton moved to Switzerland in May 2008. He lives in a little mountain village above Lago Maggiore called Brione sopra Minusio. He is painting around the picturesque lakes, mountains and valleys of Ticino. He teaches private students out on the mountains or at home. In 2010 he intends to follow up fresco painting in Florence in order to get involved with Restoration work.’ [Regula Müller Melton, May 2010]
