Biography

Pietro Salemme

Pietro Salemme was born in the province of Corzenza, Calabria, Italy and was apprenticed as a boot and shoe-maker in southern Italy. He moved to Florence where he worked as a fashion shoe designer and maker, receiving training in all facets of functional leatherware and working for the firm Luciano Ricci, one of the major manufacturers for Gucci. In 1978 he was appointed Craft Director in the Leather Workshop at the Jam Factory Workshops, South Australia.
