Biography
The Fine Art Printmaking Studio was established in central Perth, Western Australia in 1974 with funding from the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council. It was initiated by Jeff Jones, an English printmaker who had studied at Chelsea School of Art in London and later worked for Editions Electo, London, and Ashley Jones and Neil Hollis, who had studied printmaking at local institutions.
Established to provide facilities for graduate students and professional artists, the workshop operated exclusively for the production of artist’s prints at a professional standard. Later, access was provided for a more diverse group of artists and a wider range of printed work produced to finance the operation. Members included English-trained Judy Chambers (Royal College of Art) and Paul Thomas (Goldsmiths), and photographer and lecturer Neil Sullivan.[Roger Butler, Printed images by Australian artists 1942-2020, Canberra: NGA, 2021].
