Biography

Tatipai Barsa

Tatipai Barsa was born on Mer (Murray Island), on the eastern side of the Torres Strait in 1967 and gained his Associate Diploma from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Arts course at the Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE, Cairns. He later taught at Wangetti School, near Port Douglas. His images are drawn from his island home and the life of the tropical seas. He is a painter, printmaker and fabric designer and has exhibited frequently since 1985. A series of his large linocut prints are displayed in the new Cairns Convention Centre.
