Biography

Michel Tuffery

Michel Tuffery was born in Aotearoa New Zealand in 1966 of Samoan and Palagi descent. He combines both these cultural heritages in his art. Tuffery graduated with Honours in his Diploma in Fine Arts, Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin. He also studied at the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Fine Arts. In 1987 he travelled throughout the Pacific running art workshops for the local children. His work ranges across many media and modes of expressing his heritage. He has produced a number prints, and most recently has choreographed elaborate performances. Both he and Patrice Kaikilekofe made an enormous impact at the Asia Pacific Triennial in 1999 for their opening night performance Bull fight.
