Biography
Harry Pelling Gill was born at Brighton in England, 9 March 1855. Gill was a painter, printmaker, etching artist, teacher and craft practitioner. Gill became the Principal and Examiner of the Adelaide School of Art (1881-1814), Director of Technical Art and Curator of the Art Gallery (1892-1909), and President of the South Australian Society of Arts. He worked with many South Australian artists, including Helen Hambidge. Harry Gill died tragically at sea, between Marseilles and Gibraltar, en route to England, 27 May 1916.
