Biography

Apprentice to engraver W.S. Blake. Convicted of stealing from Blake and tried on 10 July 1805 at the Old Bailey and in January 1807 was transported for life to New South Wales, Australia, onboard the Duke of Portland. Delaforce was granted a Conditional Pardon on 12/9/1809 and an Absolute Pardon on 31/1/1811. There is no record of him working in New South Wales and he may have left the country after being granted his Absolute Pardon. A Jos Delaforce requested all claims against him to be presented as he was about to leave the colony onboard the whaler 'Indispensible' which was 'to cruze off New Zealand ... then proceed to London direct' [Sydney Gazette, 31 August 1811, page 2; 21 September 1811, page 3].
