Biography
Christine Druitt-Preston is a mixed media artist based in Sydney, Australia. Her practice employs lino block printing, collage, watercolour and embroidery to explore themes related to domestic interiors or gardens. Her print-based artmaking acknowledges the themes and practices of earlier women artists and artisans; using machine stitching, embroidery and recycled domestic textiles.
Druitt-Preston studied at Alexander Mackie CAE and the National Art School 1968-71, receiving a Diploma of Art Education. In 1982-83 she studied Lithography at Alfred University, Alfred, NY, USA. In 2017 she resumed her artmaking practice full time, calling an end to her commitment to art education as a teacher of Art and Design, NSW TAFE 1974-1988 and Visual Arts, NSW Department of Secondary School Education 1998-2017. Most recent solo exhibition was in 2019 at the Tweed Regional Gallery, Murwillumgah. Her prints have also been shown in the 2019 Hazelhurst Art on Paper, Still: National Still Life Award, Coffs Harbour, Gosford Art Prize and Muswellbrook Art Prize Works on Paper, the 2018 Cairns Inkmasters Print Award and Fremantle Print Award, and the 2017 Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award, Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize and Gippsland Print Award.
