Biography

Frederick Fisher, a convict, was transported on the Atlas arriving Sydney in 1816. Together with George Duncan and John Walker he launched a public company to establish a papermill. Duncan was the papermaker, Walker organised the raw materials and Fisher managed the company. Some paper was produced, but the company folded in about 1820. Fisher was murdered in 1826, and Fishers ghost has become a part of local folklore. [See Sydney Gazette, 5 February 1827, p.2-3, for trial report.]
