Biography

Helen Hambidge was born in Bendigo, Victoria 1857 and arrived in South Australia 1858. Hambidge studied with photography technician John Hood at Glenelg, Adelaide and with H.P. Gill in the 1880s. The artist exhibited at the South Australia Society of Arts 1893-1930 and at the exhibition of Australian art at Grafton Galleries, London in 1898. She was also involved with the New South Wales Society of Artists in 1906. She died in Adelaide, 1 February 1937.

The State Library of South Australia holds one of her original works [B 67379] "Hambidge Family Residence at Felixtowe" (Oil on canvas) 1898.
