Biography
Gwen Leich Harris
Gwen Leich was born in Burnie, Tasmania in 1931. She studied at Hobart Technical College under Jack Carington Smith and Dorothy Stoner in 1950-51. Awarded the Tasmanian Government Travelling Scholarship in 1953 she studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London from 1954-56 under Patrick Heron and Roger Hilton. Leitch lived in Cornwall from 1956-70 (she was awarded the Porthmeor Studio in 1957 and married the English painter Jeff Harris in 1959. They moved to Tasmania in 1970 and soon after settled in Adelaide where she is resumed her career as artist and educator.
