Biography

Company established by George Virtue (1794-1868) in the 1820s. Acquired 'The Art Union' later 'The Art Journal' in 1848. His son James Sprent Virtue (1829-1892) succeeded his father. The company also traded as Virtue Brothers & Company (1862) and Arthur Hall, Virtue & Co.
