Biography
W.W. Pett (Warwick Weston Pett), was born 11 July 1828 in Kensington, London. Trained as a wood-engraver his obituary notes that he worked on the 'Illustrated London News'. He settled in Melbourne in the early 1850s and was in partnership with the local illustrator Albert Cooke as Cooke & Pett. From 5 April 1860 to 3 January 1861 their address is given as the 'Mining Journal' Office - and they probably produced the engravings for that journal. He worked for newspapers and also engraved illustrations for the high end of the market for instance producing wood-engravings after Tom Roberts 'An illustrated poem, Orara, by Henry Kendall.' Melbourne: Art Union of Victoria, 1881.
