Biography
Tony Ayres
Tony Ayres was born in Macau in 1961 and migrated to Australia in 1964. He attended schools in Melbourne and Perth before going to the Australian National University, Canberra. After two years he transferred to the Canberra School of Art majoring in photography, though admitting to a preference for the printmaking department. In 1983 he became involved with the Bitumen River Gallery and active in organising exhibitions. He has published articles and reviews in Art Network and Muse (Canberra) and participated in numerous group exhibitions. In April 1985 he held his first one-man exhibition at the Bitumen River Gallery. Ayres completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Video at the Swinburne Institute of Technology in Melbourne. Since that time he as worked extensively in film and television.
