Biography

There are only 11 prints known by Hext, of these 7 are of Australian subjects, 2 of Capetown, 1 of the destruction of the convict ship 'Waterloo' and 1 of an English view. All the foreign subjects have a unified style and it seems likely they were all produced at the same time. They are all signed 'Captain Hext 4th King's Regiment', a postion held by Hext from 25 February 1845 to 28 December 1849, when he transferred to the 8th Regiment of Foot. Hext returned to England with his Regiment by 10 October 1848, but had returned to India by late 1850. It is most probale that his lithographic views were produced at this time.
