Frederick Baira

Frederick Baira was born on Waiben (Thursday Island), Torres Strait in 1954. His family is from Badu (Mulgrave Island). He has long had an interest in art but worked until recently as a seaman. He completed a Diploma in Visual Arts (ATSI) at the Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE, Cairns in 1997, and has moved on to study for his Bachelor of Visual Arts at the James Cook University, Townsville.
