Abstract

Sally Smart was born in South Australia at Quorn in the Flinders Ranges an environment that she says shaped her as a young artist and which has seen her develop an artistic practice recognized internationally for producing stunning, large-scale cut-out assemblage installations. In her major new work created for the Art Gallery of South Australia, Smart uses collage, metal, cloth, paint and embroidery to collide influences and ideas including Ballets Russes and WayangKulit, Indonesian shadow puppetry.
