Abstract

Almanac is an exhibition which draws upon Ann Lewis’ recent gift to a number of public galleries and provides a road map of Australian art practice over the past 50 years, shaped by the vision of one of Australia’s most well regarded collectors and arts supporters.

The exhibition veers across time and location from Sydney abstraction, beginning with works from the 1950s and 60s onward, to recent works by a number of indigenous artists from remote communities, which in this context fit within the rubric of abstraction.

Almanac includes works in numerous media from painting, to photography to ceramics and printmaking. The democratic nature of the collection of works is a key marker which shapes the exhibition. [NETS media]
