Abstract

RED: a series of drawings by Katka Adams will be opened on Friday the 17th of April at Barratt Galleries by curator Kezia Geddes. Katka moved to Australia 40 years ago as a political refugee from Czechoslovakia following the Russian invasion. Her drawings are inspired by childhood experiences and the colour of Prague during the 1960’s. A drab palette of ochre, yellowing creams, army green, beige, grey and soot black of the city is juxtaposed with the vibrant red of communist flags and slogans. The theme of red is used in a personal and symbolic way, tying these drawings together. [Gallery media, 2009]
