Abstract

To coincide with the 12th International Cartographic Association Conference this exhibition of maps fell into four categories: speculations and encounters with Australia during the period 1545 to 1970; reliable discoveries from 1920 when partial representation could be made on maps; charting the Australian continent in the late 18th and 19th centuries when settlements on the coast were developed; and lastly exploration to open up the interior and the gold discoveries of the 1850s and 1890s.
