Biography

The Art Union of Victoria was founded in Melbourne in 1873 to encourage the arts in Victoria. Every year a purchased painting was presented as a lottery prize to a subscribers. Reproductions of the painting, usually a chromo-lithograph, was presented to other subscribers. The union ceased operating in 1884.
